Permanent Eyebrows

How Permanent Eyebrows Can Help You
Permanent eyebrows help women and men whose eyebrow hair is lightly colored, thin in places, sparse overall, or nonexistent. Eyebrow hair loss can result from years of tweezing or waxing, medical conditions (e.g. scars or Alopecia), or medications (e.g. Chemotherapy). Eyebrow tattoos eliminate the daily use of pencils or powders to fill-in, reshape, or recolor brows. Eyebrow shape, thickness, color, density, height, balance, and symmetry can be corrected once and for all with eyebrow tattooing to improve the attractiveness of a person’s face.

Eyebrow Shape and Design
Eyebrows "frame" the eyes and are a reference point that determines how facial features are perceived. The appropriate eyebrow shape and size can appear to lift a person’s eyes creating a more youthful appearance. Properly designed eyebrows can balance the distance between eyes or modify the look of prominent or deeply set eyes. A good eyebrow design can also make cheekbones appear more defined and influence the perception of the person’s nose size.

At Artistic Cosmetic Solutions, a new permanent eyebrow procedure includes a face and eyebrow analysis with a new design if you desire. Dr. Reed has over 30 years experience in conventional makeup artistry and is a Certified Eyebrow Design Master by Adriel International. Using her talent and multi-point measuring system, she will create custom designed eyebrows that are flattering and balanced. And you will participate in the entire process so you’re happy with the end result.

Quality and Safety of Your Eyebrow Procedure
Dr. Reed is a lifetime artist who is highly trained in advanced permanent eyebrow techniques and color theory. She is experienced in tattooing eyebrows using multiple colors and methods including simulated hair strokes, feathering, and shading. As a doctor, she has extensive education in human anatomy, physiology, and infection control. Many physicians refer patients to her because they trust her knowledge and expertise. She has successfully tattooed eyebrows on patients with scars from injuries and burns, eyebrow hair transplants, and no hair (Alopecia patients). She has also helped cancer patients before and after their hair loss from chemotherapy.

Eyebrow Tattoo Options

Eyebrow Enhancement: This procedure is for people with thin, partial, or very light eyebrows. It supplements existing eyebrow hair to improve shape, thickness, arch, or balance. Also, bald spots or bare sections can be hidden or filled-in. For the most natural look, Dr. Reed uses a simulated hair stroke technique to create “hairs.” She can also achieve a soft shaded or powdery look.

Full Eyebrow Creation: This procedure is for people with very sparse or no eyebrow hair. Dr. Reed creates eyebrows “from scratch” in a shape that is most flattering to the face. Her specialty is the advanced hair stroke tattoo, but she can also create brows with a powder or soft fill-in technique.

Preparing for Your Procedure Appointment
You should allow at least 2 to 3 hours for your initial procedure. If you usually shape your brows by tweezing, shaving, threading, or waxing, you should do so a few days before your appointment. You should stop taking any blood-thinning products 3 days before (e.g. aspirin, alcohol, fish oils) unless prescribed by your physician. You should also wear your eyebrow pencil or powder for style evaluation and bring it with you for color matching. Additional preparation guidelines will be given to you when the procedure appointment is scheduled at your consultation.

At Your Permanent Eyebrow Procedure
You will fill out forms including a medical history that Dr. Reed will review. She will analyze your face shape, features, and eyebrows including their symmetry (evenness). Dr. Reed will create symmetry and pencil different designs so you can see what you like best. Together you will select color, and then she will apply a topical anesthetic to numb your eyebrows. Afterward she will re-create your custom design as the pattern to follow during the tattooing process. Anesthetics will be applied during the procedure for your comfort. Before and after photos will be taken for your confidential file and your pigment colors will be recorded for future reference.

After Your Permanent Eyebrow Procedure
Immediately after the procedure, your eyebrows will be darker than you want. There will be some mild swelling and redness that will clear in a day or two. The color will lighten quickly during the first week, then gradually soften and stabilize over the next few weeks. During the first week of healing, your eyebrows will be dark and a little shiny from applying ointments. You must also avoid swimming, saunas, and the sun, so you should keep this in mind when scheduling your procedure. To minimize any chance of an allergic reaction or infection at home, Dr. Reed will give you detailed after care instructions with a kit containing safe medical grade products at no additional cost.

Follow-up and Maintenance Appointments
Your eyebrow color will gradually lighten and stabilize in the weeks following your procedure. If they heal lighter than you want, they can be darkened with a second application at a follow-up visit (“touch-up”). You may need a follow-up to adjust shape or add color to areas that healed lighter from tissue swelling or bleeding during the tattooing process. Ideally, your second visit should be completed between 4 to 8 weeks post procedure. Because permanent makeup can fade over time, you can schedule maintenance visits every few years to keep your color looking fresh. These visits are typically shorter and less expensive if the original work was done by Dr. Reed.
